While implementing bypass local mode into your center, there are several items that typically arise as points of concern among both managers and specialists.
The following sections of this guide will address these issues and help you better understand the advantages to using bypass local that far surpass the limited benefits (along with many downsides) to using the local database. However, to provide a high level answers to these common questions, please review the below examples.
1. How will I bring down (download) the cases I need to manage?
a. Cases are no longer downloaded or “hoarded” while using bypass local. In bypass local mode, the local database is no longer used unless in a network outage or disaster recovery situation. All cases remain on the network all the time, even while they are being managed.
2. Will I need to search for my cases every time I go back to the network database?
a. No. toxiCALL® v4.7.37 now supports “Default Search Criteria”. This feature automatically loads a default search any time the network database is displayed. For example, you can have the case list limited to just open cases automatically without the need to run a search every time!
3. How do I find my cases quickly if they are not on my local anymore?
a. toxiCALL® v4.7.20 and later supports “Quick Search Icons” that allow you to have access to your common searches with a single click. This means cases assigned to you, ready for follow-up, open cases, etc. can all be viewed with a single click. This feature in conjunction with the “Default Search Criteria” will provide you with an environment that looks and feels just like the local database.
4. Can other specialists make changes to my case while I have it open?
a. No. Bypass local places a “lock” on cases that are open for edit; just as you are used to seeing today.
5. What if I have notes or other coding I need to finish? I may not want my case on the network yet!
a. Cases can still be saved with a “Quick Saved” status to the network just as you can with the local database (speak to your center management on policies in place regarding “open” notes and save status practices). However the difference is in bypass local other specialists may still access the case if needed. This eliminates the need to ask another specialist to upload the case or risk viewing old case information not yet updated on the network.
